How can I include nuts and dried fruit into my normal diet?
There are many different nuts and dried fruit that we can enjoy in a balanced diet: walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts, pine kernels, pecan nuts and cashew nuts.
By introducing these nuts and dried fruit in to our diets we can help increase its variety and enrichment.
We can also use many different nuts and dried fruits in dishes and recipes:
- We can obtain exquisite first courses by adding raw nuts and dried fruit to salads. Some ideas are “apple and walnut salad” or a cold rice, prawn and nut and dried fruit salad".
- We can also use them to prepare different types of sauces, such as Romesco sauce or sautéed with chopped nuts and dried fruit.
- We can also use nuts and dried fruit to accompany first and second courses: “Spinach with raisins and pine kernels”, “rice with walnut and Roquefort cheese sauce”, sole with nuts and dried fruit",...
- We can enrich our desserts with nuts and dried fruit preparing a dessert of “yoghourt with walnuts and hazelnuts”, “walnuts with chocolate”, or the postre del músico or the musician’s dessert with pine kernels and raisins, among many others.
Apart from including the nuts and dried fruit in meals and recipes, we can also eat them raw, roasted or salted as snacks to be had at breakfast, mid-morning, before lunch or for tea.
