How can I include nuts and dried fruit into my normal diet?
Are nuts and dried fruit good for my health?
The effect that a good diet has on our health is clearer now than ever before. So, the effects that many foodstuffs and nutrients have on the good functioning of the organism are being studied more and more.
Nuts and dried fruit are rich in energy due, partly, to their high fat content. The fats they contain are unsaturated fats. Nuts and dried fruit are also rich in proteins and fibre, and they contain a large variety of vitamins, minerals and antioxidant compounds.
Because of all of this, the effect their consumption has on health has been studied a great deal, and the conclusion has been reached that:
- They help reduce the total cholesterol and bad cholesterol levels in the blood.
- They help reduce the levels of triglycerides in the blood.
- They prevent the appearance of cardiovascular diseases and, therefore, the risk of having a heart attack.
- Their fibre content prevents constipation, helping control the levels of cholesterol and glucose in the blood, and preventing the appearance of certain types of cancer.
- The high number of antioxidant compounds they contain helps combat oxidation of the organism.
- The high number of vitamin and mineral compounds they contain make it the ideal complement for a complete and balanced diet
