Nuts and dried fruit are energetic foodstuffs: a 30 g serving of nuts and dried fruit provides about 200 kcal.  However, the results of different scientific studies show that incorporating nuts and dried fruit into the diet does not cause an increase in weight.  In different research studies conducted on diets that are rich in nuts and dried fruit, none has found significant weight increases in individuals who have enriched their diets with nuts and dried fruit.
A person’s normal diet would have to provide between 2000 and 2500 kilocalories, depending on the energy needs of that person, based on age, sex, weight, size and physical activity of the person, among others.  So, nuts and dried fruit can help us balance our diet, complementing a breakfast (1 glass of milk, bread and cheese and a serving of nuts and dried fruit), as a mid-morning snack or as a dessert after lunch or dinner replacing the traditional piece of fruit or yoghourt.
